Bubinga, sometimes called African rosewood, is a beautiful, hard, dense pleasantly fragrant (though not a true rosewood) African hardwood. Bubinga is often beautifully figured, and is available in several different cuts of veneer, including an interesting rotary cut. I use it for my darker collectors boxes and ring boxes, and plan to do an inlay banding box with it sometime in the future.
