This box features a laminated top of carefully matched solid wood --not veneer. Though the top resembles marquetry, it is actually solid wood, a full 3/16" thick, so the mountain scene shows on the inside of the box. Holly moon in a macassar ebony sky, with several shades of koa mountains, and genuine silver stars, in ebony frame. See close-up below.

Here's the hinged version. The box sides are 1/16 thicker , and the grain orientation of the sides is horizontal rather than vertical, as on the unhinged boxes. The hinges are solid brass stop hinges.
