This
classic jewelry box , whcih I've been making since 1985, features an end grain
panel lid made from solid: bloodwood, holly, wenge, Brazilian satinwood, purpleheart,Brazilian
tulipwood, leopardwood, red oak, zebrawood, and honey locust. The opening tab,
and lid stay are ebony. It has a lift out divided tray with ring storage, and
removable bottom dividers. The top is solid wood, so you see the pattern when
you open the box. The mitres are reinforced with butterfly splines. I am the first
boxmaker in the US to use this joint on jewelry boxes available to the public,
and I've never seen another jewelry box that uses it as a "stopped"
groove ---so it doesn't show on the top, burt rather as a pleasant surprise when
the box is open. This requires backing the bit out of the cut on its exact path
of entry, a difficult procedure. Available in walnut, or cherry. Click on image
