This is my first piece not primarily dominated by surface design. Its focus is rather extraordinary joinery --the very heart of the box, so to speak. I wish I could say I invented heart shaped dovetails, and the clever word to describe them, but I first was introduced to lovetails by Fine Woodworking Magazine some years ago. The fabrication of lovetails is the ultimate expression of a dedicated amateur woodworker--that is to say one who loves woodworking. The top is pin hinged at its rear ebony rail, and the front is gently curved to form a lift tab in the middle. The interior contains an entirely removable divider system which serves as support for a mitred half width sliding tray, with ring pad.
