Spalting occurs when dead wood is attacked by certain decay fungi. As the fungus moves through the wood, the "front" of the assault appears as a black line, and often different zones of color are left behind. The bookmatched end grain pairs of spalted maple create evocative organic or landscape like compositions, framed in wenge. The case is available in bubinga or figured maple.
