Quilted Maple Jewelry Cabinet
We made this ultimate jewelry chest with beauty and
unparalleled function in mind. Built to last generations, the
case is constructed with tapered sliding dovetail joints joining
sides to top and bottom to sides. The cabinet stores an enormous
amount of jewelry, with eight graduated depth drawers, and two
pullout, two sided swiveling panels, one for necklaces, and one
for earrings. The panels are suspended on a solid wood double
glide system that allows them to be pulled entirely forward of
the cabinet enclosure, and then pivoted, providing perfect
visual and manual access to both sides of each panel. Thus the
cabinet doesn't require side clearance to operate. These are
made in small batches in various woods.

Another view, with the oblique angle changing the
highlighting of the amazing pearlescent quilted maple.
This hand made jewelry cabinet is built from Oregon
quilted maple, a genetic freak of bigleaf maple, that creates
the strongest 3D illusion of any wood. The cabinet is built from
a mix of solid woods for the edgings and legs and stretchers,
commercial veneers for the broad side panels, and thick
shopsawn veneers for the top and drawer and pull-out panel
fronts. Ebony pulls, sculpted to fit the fingers for a
comfortable tug, contrast sharply against the maple.

Quilted Maple Jewelry Cabinet
This picture shows how the drawers have different divisions to accommodate a variety of jewelry needs.
The dovetailed drawers seemingly stop magically at full extension (due to a magnetic stop system) so they don't inadvertently pull out, causing you to dump all of your jewelry on the floor, but with a conscientious tug they can be removed and reinserted with ease.

The panels are made so that they pull out to the end and then swing open in both directions. The necklace holder on the left has 7 wrought iron necklace hooks on this side and 7 on the other side(see next picture) with a wooden "pouch" at the bottom of the panel that will catch your longer necklaces. The earring panel is also 2 sided and will hold up to 150 pairs of earrings, with both slots and holes to accommodate different earring styles.

This side panel is pulled all of the way out and swung to the
right so you can see the wrought iron necklace and/or bracelet
hooks on this side. The pullout panels swivel once fully
withdrawn, allowing easy access to both sides, without requiring
side clearance , so they may be placed in tight confines. I
don't have a patent on this necklace and earring storage system,
which I developed, and though I've received many inquiries from
other woodworkers about how they work, or if they can purchase a
plan, I've kept it to myself, and have yet to see an imitation.
It's a pretty hard system to execute, and at least one of my
jewelry cabinet sales have been to a serious amateur
woodworker, who after seeing our ultimate jewelry cabinet
decided he couldn't produce near its equal.

Quilted Maple Jewelry Cabinet
This is a picture of the back of the handcrafted
jewelry cabinet. Some would call it a jewelry armoire, but I'm
not a big fan of the term. All of the pieces
are made of solid figured maple and tongue and grooved together. The whole
panel is attached with brass screws to allow easy
removal if necessary. The
whole panel is put on with brass screws to allow removal if necessary.
I've never had a return or customer problem on one of these, but
I want to make sure they can be repaired if necessary, long
after I'm gone.
