Standing Jewelry Lingerie Cabinet
This standing jewelry cabinet is something I've been wanting
to build for a long time, and I finally decided to just do it.
It holds an enormous collection of jewelry, and with the larger
lower drawers I'm calling it a jewelry-lingerie cabinet, but of
course the lower drawers could be used for whatever you'd like.
It utilizes the same pull out, swiveling necklace and earring
panel system I use on my popular desk top jewelry cabinets.
These allow for easy access for those items better hung than
simply placed in a drawer. The unique slide out and swivel
mechanism allows for full access to both sides of the pull-out
panels even if the cabinet is placed next to other furniture
items on either side.

Here the doors are open to reveal the 12 drawers, in three graduated heights. Three are 1 5/8" , five are 2 1/8", and four are 2 1/2" deep. I will divide the drawers to the buyers specs. For ideas see here. The drawers slide smoothly on wooden glides. Seldom seen double door catch mechanism allows doors to lock without a central stile.

The panels can be pulled out to the very end and then rotate in both directions. The earring panel, shown here, is 2 sided and will hold over 100 pairs of earrings, with both slots, and holes to accommodate different earring styles.

Here the left side necklace and bracelet panel is pulled all of the way out and swung to the right . The pullout panels swivel once fully withdrawn, allowing easy access to both sides, without requiring side clearance, so the cabinet may be placed in tight confines. Though I don't have a patent on this necklace and earring storage system I developed, I've received many inquiries from other woodworkers about how they work, or if they can purchase a plan. I've kept it to myself, and have yet to see an imitation. It's a pretty hard system to execute, and at least one of my jewelry cabinet sales have been to a serious amateur woodworker, who after seeing our ultimate jewelry cabinet decided he couldn't produce near its equal.

Here the necklace panel is swiveled out to the left. On this side two rows of hooks hold bracelets and necklaces. The spring-loaded box below catches long chains and prevents tangling.

The top of the cabinet is veneered with 3/32" thick shopsawn veneer resawn from a thick plank, and slip matched to form a flowing pattern. The cabinet utilizes an array of solid sapele, shopsawn thick veneers, and commercial pommele veneer for the door and bottom drawer medallions. Sapele is an African wood, still abundant, and an oft-used substitute for the now virtually unavailable South American mahoganies. It has a lovely chatoyance --a light catching holographic quality that shifts with perspective.

This is a picture of the back of the handmade jewelry cabinet. Some would call it a jewelry armoire, but I'm not a big fan of the term. The sapele veneered panel is fastened with brass screws to allow removal if necessary. I've never had a return or customer problem on one of these, but I want to make sure they can be repaired if necessary, long after I'm gone.
