Brazilian Tulipwood Jewelry Box
Here on this page are a few discontinued, but not forgotten jewelry boxes, that I may get back to making a version of someday.
This handmade jewelry box features eight book-matched pieces of Brazilian tulipwood, the lightest hued of the true rosewoods, in a beveled field of wenge, with holly. The case is figured cherry, with an ebony lift tab and lid stay. The beveled frame fits around the top with a compound mitre, so there's extra interior room up top. The pattern shows when the box is open, as the lid is solid. The colors in the Brazilian tulipwood are really beautiful, often organic and even a bit erotic.
Cherry Two Tray Jewelry Box
This classic all solid cherry jewelry box features a beveled top with delicate ebony inlay banding emphasizing its bevels. Inside, as seen in other boxes, are innovative necklace storage and earring storage systems. . This box featured an earring tray, and a simple tray. The mitred tray had a two slot ring pad on one end , and flat divided storage on black velveteen in the other. Italian brass cylinder hinges, and solid brass lid stay by Brusso that I use in many of my boxes complete the hardware. The bottom dividers form nine compartments sized from earring to bracelet, and can be removed.
I'll probably make this box again, with the intention of offering the top as a great canvas for custom inlays.
Lovetailed Jewelry Box
This was my first hand crafted jewelry box not primarily dominated by surface design. Its focus is rather extraordinary joinery --the very heart of the box, so to speak. I wish I could say I invented heart shaped dovetails, and the clever word to describe them, but I first was introduced to lovetails by Fine Woodworking Magazine some years ago. The fabrication of lovetails is the ultimate expression of a dedicated amateur woodworker--that is to say one who loves woodworking. So as a professional who loves his work, and is undaunted by a challenge, I present to you an affordable lovetailed jewelry box. The heart shape pins are gently rounded where they're allowed to poke through the curved front and flat back surfaces.
This is another I'd love to get back to making, probably without the ebony rails, in a box with regular hinging.
Dalbergia Garden Jewelry Box
This custom made jewelry box was an early web obtained commission, a combination of my Kaleidoscope and Dalbergia jewelry boxes. The top's end grain panel is made of (from center): Brazilian satinwood, purpleheart, honey locust, nogal, red oak, blood-wood and wenge, in a beveled frame of wenge with holly accent. The lift tab and lid-stay are ebony. The frame and box top portion are both cut at a compound mitre, so there's extra room at the interior top, and the pattern shows through, as it's solid wood.
Hand Made Jewelry Boxes
Our jewelry boxes are the finest made in the US, the result of over 25 years of thought, improvement, and hard work. From the quality of the wood itself, to the finest solid brass hardware, to the hand-rubbed tung oil finish, we cut no corners in constructing jewelry boxes destined to become treasured family heirlooms. All our large jewelry boxes have ample storage, with trays, and in some drawers, able to house large to very large jewelry collections. We also can adapt our stock designs or make something especially for you. A custom made jewelry box is a perfect gift for the most special occasions. My newer boxes contain an innovative necklace storage system that prevents sagging and entanglement, and a tray designed to hang many pairs of earrings, so our boxes are not only breathtakingly beautiful, but a sheer delight to use.
