Cherry Dovetailed Tea Boxes
I've had enough requests for tea boxes that I decided to make a few to keep in stock. They're the same size as my small jewelry boxes, so they can share the same top --but they're deeper, sized just right for tea packets. They have dividers to form eight cubbies, each capable of holding about 8-10 tea bag packets. This one has a center panel of spalted maple, with a frame of cherry and ebony mitered banding.

Open view of the cherry tea box shows the eight cubbies sized for about 8-10 tea packets each. Lightweight yet sturdy construction for years, if not generations of service. Works equally well for caffeinated teas!

Koa Dovetailed Tea Box
Here's the koa version of the tea box. Koa can only be found in Hawaii and is becoming very difficult to obtain, making these boxes all the more precious.
Beautiful curly koa is in the middle of the top, mango is the lighter wood and the dark wood is ebony. Beautiful solid koa with dovetailed joinery make up the rest of the box, altogether making a beautiful presentation for your tea.

Black Palm dovetailed box
Detail of book-matched black palm end grain panel. This is a
very remarkable wood grain, set off in the vibrant and warm
golden browns of koa, and framed in jet black gabon ebony. The
panels sit just proud of the tops surface, with a delicate bevel
catching the light at the panels edges.

Black Palm Jewelry Box
The interior of the Black Palm box is the same as the other dovetail boxes except that the tray is undivided except for the ring pad.

Hawaiian Bouquet Jewelry Box
Since koa has such bold and variable figure, it's especially important to match grain, and select wood carefully. My koa boxes are often made by re-sawing a piece long enough for one short side and one long side, and so I get a perfect grain match all the way around, with two book-matched corners, and two simple continuations of the grain. Pictured is a book-matched corner.
