Spalted Diamond Triptych Box
This box features three bookmatched panels of spalted maple endgrain diamonds, in a fielsd of claro walnut, framed in ebony, all set in a ziricote or claro walnut case. Ziricote is a highly prized Mexican hardwood that exhibits unique wild, fantasy landscape-like figure. The panels are three successive bookmatches off a laminated block, tracing the changing pattern produced by the spalting fungus as it moves through the wood. Ziricote has become nearly unobtainable, so these are very special boxes. Also available in claro walnut cases, made from beautiful walnut from the Pacific Northwest.
Spalted Triptych Box
I'm offering these with open interior, (with a black velvet liner), but can fit them with dividers and a small tray if you'd like for an additional fee.

Silverware Chests
Since koa has such bold and variable figure, it's especially important to match grain, and select wood carefully. My koa boxes are often made by re-sawing a piece long enough for one short side and one long side, and so I get a perfect grain match all the way around, with two book-matched corners, and two simple continuations of the grain. Pictured is a book-matched corner.
