Bubinga and Ebony Inlay Banding Two Drawer Jewelry Box
This box, the largest of my traditional, chest-style jewelry
boxes, features spectacularly figured veneered panels and a top
of quilted bubinga, a dense lustrous African wood often referred
to as African rosewood. Legs and stretchers of solid bubinga
--the stretchers' tenons are mortised into the legs, and contain
the veneered panels. This construction allows for precision-fit drawers,
and a solidity matching the finest custom made furniture. The
top of the box features beveled inlays of ebony and a matching
quilted bubinga inlay banding sawn from a shop built block.

The innovative necklace storage and earring storage systems make the inside of the box as notable as the outside, a combination of artistry and engineering that only someone who spends far too much time thinking about jewelry boxes could have produced. The necklace tray slides from front to back and can also be removed. The drawers have many divided compartments and the bottom drawer has 2 slotted ring pad on the right side. The drawers are graduated in depth, with the deeper bottom drawer containing a two slot ring pad on the right. The drawer fronts are dovetailed into the red loro drawer sides - a beautiful detail when the drawers are opened, and are equipped with spring loaded stops that prevent accidental removal of the drawer, but allow its removal with a swift tug.

This jewelry box is the same as the two drawer version, except without the drawers. It has the same earring and necklace provisions, and just a bit more room beneath the tray than the two drawer version, but of course it lacks the drawer space. It's still a very large jewelry box, capable of holding a large collection of jewelry.

The necklace tray slides from front to back and can also be removed. Half of the tray has a 2 slotted ring pad and the other side is a flat velvet pad. . The necklace box has a spring hinged, padded top section that places gentle tension on necklaces, preventing the inevitable entanglement common to inexpensive necklace "pouches" used by many box makers. This may be easily opened and closed with a flick of a finger. The earring tray allows about 24 pairs of earrings to hang, both studded ones in the two rows of slots, and hook style in front through the holes. Tung oil and varnish finish.
